Sanur fits snugly between the extremely chilled out Nusa Dua and the hectic Kuta area. It’s a nice middle ground that is mainly visited by European tourists looking for a quieter holiday destination, whilst still being able to enjoy fine dining, shopping and experience the typical Balinese vibe and buzz.

The beach in Sanur is protected by an outer coral reef which makes swimming a lot safer than other areas in Bali. It can get quite crowded with locals but Sanur stretches for about 4 kms so there is always an empty patch of beach.

Dotted along the beach front of Sanur is where all the action is happening. Here you will find an array of local vendors selling souvenirs, t-shirts and of course the obligatory sarong. You will also find that most of the hotels are located right at the beachfront where hotel guests sit on day beds, or pool side chairs and watch the passing parade. It’s awesome for people watching and sun baking.

A Sunset drink on the beach to end the day is a must and once the sun goes down you will find most tourists head to the main strip where most of the restaurants and bars and located. Overall, Sanur is more for those holiday makers wanting a very relaxed and mellow break. In fact, some people never leave their hotel. They laze by the pool the whole day, go out to the beach for a quick dip in the ocean and have all their meals in the hotel. That’s fine if you like that sort of thing. But, if you want a romantic, peaceful, serene holiday break then Sanur is the answer.

A bit more about Sanur: Sanur spans about 5km on the east side on Bali. The most common feature is a walkway that extends from one end of Sanur to the other is the lush, green gardens of all the hotels that line the beachfront. This pathway is a well used by guests wanting a bit of exercise out of the heat of the sun. The main street is Jl Danau Tamblingan, and here is where you will do most damage with your credit card shopping.
